Documenting your life story.

heirloom albums

"...When the albums arrived, I was totally blown away with the quality. Just stunning..."

The photo album. Thought of by some as a thing of the past, a thing you'll "get around to" putting together by printing your own images and filing them into the empty slots. Somewhere along the way, the treasured and classic photo album got lost into a digital folder on your laptop or your phone. Let me tell you that these photo albums are not something that only your parents used to do, but they are exactly what you want to preserve those moments that will make up the volumes of your life.

As one of the few tangible things you will take away from your wedding day or session, investing in a beautiful, tailored album will be something you will be so happy you did.  As the years from your wedding date pass, or as your family continues to grow, designing that year's updated family portraits into the latest coffee table album will not only allow you to easily show off your favourite images, but will seamlessly turn into an heirloom to be passed down through generations.

These albums are made with the finest materials, with a variety of textured covers and on the highest quality archival paper designed to last a lifetime. They are modern, timeless and waiting to be filled with your favourite life moments.

the process

STEP 1 - SELECT YOUR SIZE

To begin, select the desired Album size. This will give me the blank canvas to begin the design process.

Heirloom Albums comes in a variety of sizes. The larger the album size, the more “real estate” there is to show off your favourite images. The impact of those larger images across a full spread leaves the viewer with that wow-factor that can’t be replicated. For your personal Heirloom Album, I recommend the 12x12 or 10x10 inch Albums. For gifted Heirloom Albums for parents, family or friends, the 10x10 or 8x8 is perfect!

Each Heirloom Album is designed with a base of 15 full spreads (equal to 30 sides/pages), with the opportunity to add additional spreads a la carte.

 STEP 2 - THE DESIGN

After collecting some favourite images of yours that are “must haves” in the design process, I will create an initial design to visually tell your story with each turn of the page. A virtual copy of your Heirloom Album design will be sent to you in your Client Portal. You are able to flip through each page to make any applicable notes, image swaps or requests. Those are submitted back to me in the same portal, in a seamless and organized process.

After the changes are implemented, a new draft will be sent and the process is repeated. It’s typical for 1-3 rounds of edits to be done before the final seal of approval and your album is ready to print.

Full page spreads, visually interesting design, and cohesive pages from front to back are incorporated in each Heirloom Album, with each one being as unique as the last.

STEP 3 - COVER + TEXT OPTIONS

After the Design process is completed, you can select your cover and text options to perfect the exterior of your Album. I recommend choosing a cover material that is timeless in colour and one that matches your home decor. Factor in where your Heirloom Album will be on display and choose a material that is cohesive with your personal style. If you’d like to narrow down further, choosing a cover style that matches your wedding day or session pallet is also a great choice to compliment the images inside.

Text options are another personal choice!

I recommend including names and/or dates on your cover as well. There are a variety of ways you could do this, and I’ve attached a few samples of what past clients have done! To really customize this, let’s chat!

FAQ:

Q: How many images are typically in an Heirloom Album?

A: Every Album varies. Typically I request between 60-75 “must have” images to begin the design. 12x12 Albums will normally include between 85-100 images. The number of images included heavily relies on the design and layout of the Album itself! If we decide to have more larger “featured” images, there is less room available on the page. As you’ll see in the sample designs above, it all balances out to use the space accordingly as some spreads call for more images, while others call for less.

Q: When is the best time to invest in an Album?

A: I recommend investing in an Album within 6 - 9 months of your wedding or 1 - 3 months of your session. The images and memories are still fresh in your mind, and allow you some more clarity in choosing your favourites to be part of the process. Online wedding galleries are active for 1 year following your wedding and will allow for seamless edits and image swaps in the process.

Q: How does the investment work?

A: Upon choosing your Album size, a deposit of 50% of your final invoice is due to begin the design process. After completing the design, cover and text options, the remaining 50% of your invoice is due before your Album is sent to print.

Q: Can we have a say in the design process?

A: Absolutely! Asking for your favourite images before I begin allows us to jump off on the right foot! With many (if not all) of your favourite images in the album, the minor tweaks of “can we make this one bigger”, or “can we swap this image for this one” a total breeze in editing stage. On average, there are 1-3 rounds of revisions in the process and there is a minor additional editing fee if album design goes beyond 5 versions. The process is absolutely collaborative and always leaves you so excited with the final product!

Q: How long does the process take?

A: Typically your Heirloom Album is designed within 1 week of receiving you favourite images and the 50% deposit. I always tell clients that I can work as quickly as you can. Once you have a chance to send your edits back to me, a new design is ready within a week to repeat the process. Once all items are finalized and the balance is paid, your Heirloom Album arrives to the studio within 6-8 weeks and is promptly mailed off to it’s forever home.

I’d love nothing more than knowing you’ll forever enjoy the images from your day at your fingertips, and relive the magic that an Heirloom Album brings each time you flip through. If you have any additional questions or wanted to come see some samples in person, please just let me know!
